Obituary of Kenneth C. Marshall

Kenneth Corry Marshall, “Marshall Dan”, after 82 great years of life returned to his Heavenly Father on January 15, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. Kenny was born April 16, 1927 in Cedar City, Utah, the oldest child of three, to William A.”Ash” Marshall and Edrie Corry Marshall. The family lived in Kanab, Utah until Kenny was five years old, at which time the family moved to Provo, where he spent the majority of his years growing up as well as adult life.

Kenny grew up knowing the value of hard work while working for his dad’s oil, gas, and auto parts distribution company. Kenny was just 14 when the tragic events of December 7, 1941 occurred. This event affected him greatly and he joined the US Navy, days after turning 17. Kenny served his county with great honor during World War II in the Pacific Campaign and with the subsequent occupation forces, earning numerous medals and citations during the war.

After his years of service and honorable discharge from the Navy, Kenneth married Yvonne Stout. They later divorced. Ken later married Maxine Hoover January 17, 1970. Ken, like his dad, enjoyed his own service station business and the chance to interact with his many friends and customers in the Provo area. Ken and Maxine resided in Provo until retiring in Hurricane, Utah.

The family had a cabin at Strawberry and Ken loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed camping with his family on many trips to the State and National forests of Utah. He spent many deer and bird hunting trips with his family, good friends Bill Burrell and Larry Hall, and many friends of the Provo Elks Lodge.

Ken helped many people through his life, always having a charitable eye for those in need of a hand. Ken has always seen humor and enjoyment in the challenges of life and always found ways to get through the hard times with a laugh.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents and sister Karla Brereton (Robert). He is survived by his wife Maxine and three children, daughter Kayce Tohara (John) and sons Michael (Jeri) and Mark (DeeAnn); his brother Kuhn (Norma); and 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, cousins and nephews.

The family gives special thanks to his dear wife Maxine, daughter Kayce and the staff of Southern Utah Hospice – Tacy, Lisa, and Craig – who gave Ken such great care and compassion.

Ken’s life touched many as he had a gift of making friendships and relationships with people from every walk of life. He will be missed from our lives as he left us a better world for having shared his experiences with us.

A viewing will held Friday January 22, at 6 PM to 8 PM at Berg Mortuary, 185 East Center Street, Provo, Utah. Funeral services will be at 11 AM on Saturday January 23 at the LDS Chapel located at 1550 N 1350 W in Provo with a viewing that morning from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM. Kenneth will be laid to rest with VFW Military rites at East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery, 4800 E Lawn Dr, Provo.

The family suggests donations to the charity of your choice with special consideration of the Jonathon Unander Cancer Benefit Fund at Wells Fargo (SEE AT: http://helpjonandtiffany.blogspot.com ) and the LDS Perpetual Education Fund.
